Although we are still finishing January, it is well known that the south of Spain starts to enjoy really good temperatures and sunny days during the last days of February and March. This reason, accompained by lots of local events during spring, makes it necessary to book and plan with anticipation your stay.

Local Spring Events in Costa Blanca
The spring comes out with a lot of cultural atraction events for tourists. The most important ones are the Moors and Christians events in Alcoy and Las Hogueras de San Juan.
- Moors and Christians: This is a set of festival activities which are celebrated in many towns and cities of Spain, mainly in the southern Valencian Community. According to popular tradition the festivals commemorate the battles, combats and fights between Moors (i.e. Muslims) and Christians during the period known as Reconquista (from the 8th century through the 15th century). Although the most famous one is the festival held in Alcoy, other localities like Guardamar or Villajoyosa celebrate also some events.
- Hogueras de San Juan: This traditional midsummer party in Spain is the celebration in honour of San Juan and takes place on the evening of June 23. Although there are events all over the national territory, this midsummer tradition is especially important in Alicante. From June 14 to 20, the “fires”, which are artistic monuments of wood, cardboard, cork and paint that contain a deep satirical charge are planted. Four days later they burn after launching a monumental firework palm from Mount Benacantil, where Santa Barbara Castle is located, and which is visible from virtually anywhere in the city. Each bonfire represents a street, area or neighborhood of the city.
Sports for the spring
The most important sports during the spring season in Costa Blanca are Golf and Cyclism.
